What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a healing technique consisting of divine energy or 'Ki' that is channeled through the practitioner into the individual invoking feelings of peacefulness and relaxation. In Japanese the meaning of Reiki is 'universal life force energy'. This is the same concept as prana, the vital life force energy spoken of in yogic philosophy. We cannot live without this essential energy that resides in all living beings - humans, animals and plants alike.

What does it do?
Reiki increases your Ki-energy and will balance any areas that are blocked. A block or an imbalance can occur when we are challenged emotionally or when we are consumed with an abundance of stress. Living in this fast paced world we are constantly in 'fight or flight' mode. Our heart races, our breathing is shallow and quick and our immune system begins to weaken leaving us with less resistance to illness. Reiki removes the negative energy that causes this and replaces it with positive life force energy and allows the body to begin its own healing process.

Reiki is spiritually guided energy. What this means is that wherever the healing is needed most, the direct cause of the illness or discomfort, is where this healing energy goes. The energy is guided to these areas to attain its goal of restoring balance to all three bodies -physical, emotional, and spiritual.
What is it good for?
Reiki has been effective in treating insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, depression, arthritis, back pain, cancer, carpel tunnel syndrome, headaches, sinus congestion, toothaches and much more. Minor cuts and bruises can heal quicker. It can also reduce the healing time of surgical procedures and broken bones.

What should be expected?
A reiki treatment usually runs between 45 minutes to one hour. You may feel subtle warmth flowing through you and/or surrounding you. There may also be some tingling in your fingers and toes, or just an overall sense of wellbeing. A hands off technique is used so the energy surrounding you (aura) is healed to allow the Ki-energy to flow through you and travel to the areas where it is needed most inside the body. In some cases, the practitioner may be guided to use a hands on treatment to some areas of the body depending on the particular ailment and what needs to be healed (emotional/physical).
Reiki is a great tool to help us stay connected to this unlimited supply of vital life force so we are better able to reduce stress, stay relaxed and keep ourselves healthy and strong physically, emotionally and spiritually.
