ISHTA Yoga, founded by Alan Finger, is the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayuveda. Hatha - Ha meaning sun and Tha meaning moon, balances all the bodily systems through asana (yoga postures) to prepare us for self-realization. Tantra expands us beyond our limitations so we can realize our divine nature. Ayuveda is an ancient indian healing art. Ayu means longevity and Veda means knowledge or science. It prevents disease and cleans out toxins in the body through various techniques involving diet, body/energy work and herbal medicines. It is the science of longevity.

Ishta yoga combines all three making it a complete practice for health and wellbeing on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
|
In Sanskrit the word 'ishta' means personal practice. This is a big part of the Ishta tradition. Working at your own level and listening to your body is always emphasized. The sequences are taught with detail and careful attention to alignment to avoid injury.

It also incorporates 'vinyasa flow' into the sequences so that it can be a vigorous practice as well. The practitioner establishes the level they work at so it is an ideal style of yoga for beginner through advanced.
